Understanding the World

On Friday 12th February 2021 lots of people around the world will be celebrating a very important festival it is called Chinese New Year

According to the Chinese calendar, the year you were born may determine your personality. Every year is represented by an animal, and legend has it that people born under that animal have certain personality traits. The year 2021 is the year of the Ox. So just for fun, find your birth year and that year's animal, and see what some people believe it says about you. Do the same for members of your family.

Watch this video below to find out more about how people prepare for Chinese New Year.

CBeebies: Preparing For Chinese New Year - Let's Celebrate

As mentioned in the video during Chinese New Year celebrations, children are sometimes given envelopes with money inside!

With an adult, look at some coins and see if you can see any numbers on them.

What numbers can you see?

What shape are the coins?

What colours are they?

Let's Get Creative

Today I'm setting you the challenge to create a handprint dragon.

In China the dragon is a very important symbol. The dragon is a symbol of power, strength, and good luck for people who are worthy of it.
