Dr Walker's Church of England Primary School

An Exceptional Place to Flourish

Learning activities set Monday 15th June

Hello again Hedgehogs.

I hope you are well on whatever day you read this. I also hope that you have had a great week.

Even though it's only been one week back at school and it's not normal yet, it is nice to know that it's a positive step towards getting back to normal.

I hope that you are managing to keep in contact with your friends too, as I know that is really important. The time when we are back together again is getting closer.

As always, we have lots of things for you to try. If you need help or just want to show me what you have done, please email me at j.evans@fyfielddrwalkers.essex.sch.uk

English

The video below is chapter 3 of Tom's sausage lion. I hope that you have been enjoying it too.

Task

Pick a part of the story to turn into a play script.  You could pick a part of the story and directly change it or you could even extend a part of the story and add a bit more to it.
Use the example below to help you set it out.

SPAG

Below we have some SPAG mats for you to try. Remember to look at the one for your year group and try the activities.

Maths

Below are links for maths from the white rose website and from the oak academy. Have a look through the tasks and try to complete what you can.

Year 3-On oak academy look in the Maths subject page at fractions.

Year 4-On oak academy look in the Maths subject page at solving measures and money problems.

Science

This week we are looking at something that is important to everyone, most people have them and it's really important to look after them.

Teeth.

So as normal we have a powerpoint for you to have a look at before you start the activities.

Then we have a labelling activity and something hopeful a bit more fun and creative (but you still need to think about what you have learned from the powerpoint).

Challenge

If the labelling activity seems a little dull and you want to be more creative, then go for it. You could make a colourful poster or a 3D model of it. Have a look at some of the examples below for some inspiration.

History/Geography

I wonder how many of you know that our school wasn't the only school in Fyfield.

Task: Can you find out any information about places local to you that used to be used for a different reason?

Computing/Music

Last week in computing you looked at a website to make your own music.

This week you'll be looking at another website to do that, but this time it has multiple layers of things you can do to change the music you make.

Experiment with it and see what you can create.  When you are happy you can download it.

Click file and then export to download it (I am doing this on a computer, I don't know how well it works on a phone or tablet).

Then you have your song to keep.

Art

In art I want to look at 2 skills, shading and perspective.  Both of these skills can be used in drawing and painting to help make your images more realistic.
So I want you to practice with the two skills. Don't worry if they aren't perfect the first time you try them, that is what practice is for.
See if you can use these two skills to draw a landscape picture.

DT

Bread, in all its various forms, is the most widely consumed food in the world. Not only is it an important source of carbohydrates, it’s also portable and compact, which helps to explain why it has been an important part of our diet for thousands of years. In fact, recent Historians suggest that humans started baking bread at least 30,000 years ago.

So for DT this week we are going to look at some bread. Some Hedgehog rolls. (Don't worry if you don't have the ingredients for them, I will post a link for other recipes too).

RE

This week in RE we are going to look at pilgrimage. A pilgrimage is a journey to a sacred place or for religious reasons.

Have a read through the powerpoint and try some of the activities underneath.

Big Question

Some have you may have been following the news about the protests linked to the Black Lives Matter campaign.

Lots of people will have their own opinion as to whether the campaign is good or not, I don't want you to think about that here.

What I do want you to think about is whether people should be allowed to go to large protests considering the health issues at the moment and then explain why you think this.

This week I would like to thank Laila for her prayer.

Remember to forgive those who hurt you.

Remember to think about others.

Remember about the things around you and make a good change in the world.
