An Exceptional Place to Flourish

English

Yesterday in English we learnt more about Victorian shopping  and their streets. Today we are going to get a bit more creative with what we have learnt. First of all have a look at this website:

This website shows pictures from the book 'The High Street' by Alice Melvin. In this book the character, Sally, goes to different shops, and the pages show the shops that she visits from the outside. However each page can also be unfolded to show the indoors of the shop, revealing it's contents and details inside.

Using what you learnt about yesterday I would like you to make a page in the style of Alice Melvin's book, with the page showing the outside of a Victorian shop as Jemmy Button goes to it. Then design it so when you unfold the page it shows what you could buy inside the shop. Use the videos and activities from yesterday to help you work out what kind of shop you are doing and what it might be like inside. Don't forget to add descriptions and labels to the inside of the shop.

Over the week you may have ideas for other unfolding shops you could make. I wonder if you can make your own Victorian high street?! I'd love to see what you make.

Here is the picture of Jemmy coming out of the clothes shop that we saw yesterday, to remind you of some of the shops that we saw.
