Message from Miss Tierney
Hi Caterpillars, I hope you and your family are well. I have put together a few activities to keep you busy while you are at home. This is our class page and I will be updating this every Monday (excluding school holidays) with new challenges and resources. There is no expectation to complete everything on this list. Just like at school I have planned weekly colour challenges. Perhaps you could create your own home learning challenge passports like we do at school and show me when we get back? Remember to save these activities if you would like to refer back to them as each Monday they will be replaced.
In your Home Learning packs there should be 2 sets of phonics cards. If possible try and read these daily as well as other reading for 20 minutes to a grown up.
In Maths we have been learning numbers up to 20. We have also looked at adding and subtracting single digit numbers (e.g. 5-2=3 and 3+2=5). Numbers are everywhere so make sure you keep up with recognising them. Sumdog is a great website to practice this. We have also begun looking at measuring by comparing different heights, weights and lengths. We have been using vocabulary such as 'shorter', 'heavier', 'lighter', 'the same', 'longer', 'taller' and 'equal'.
Keeping active is very important for us so we can keep fit and burn off our energy. PE with Joe is on YouTube every Monday - Friday at 9am for a live PE lesson. There is also Andy's Wild Workouts on the Cbeebies website. This might be a great opportunity to show your family the
amazing PE skills you have learnt this year.
As well as taking care of our physical health it is also important to take time to look after our mental health. Take time each day to relax. You can do this by playing, dancing, drawing or yoga (Cosmic Kids is our class favourite YouTube channel).
Spend time with your family, whether this is baking, watching a film or playing a board game. Helping round the house will really help your family and I'm sure they will really love your help.
Hopefully we will all be back at school soon and I can't wait to hear about all of the amazing learning you have been up to at home. If you would like to show me what you are up to, tweet it to our school twitter account @drwalker_s.
I will also be sharing everyone's work on our class page every Friday so you can see what your friends have been up to. My email is open for any questions you may have and I will try to reply as soon as I can.
See you soon,
First of all an important announcement about reading books! As we can't provide new reading books at the moment, we have an exciting new options for reading at home. Each reception child will now have a log-in to Phonics Bug with a selection of books already chosen to match their reading level. Simply read the book online and when you finish the next book will be available. The books also include details of the main sounds and words that the book is practising, and prompts and questions that parents can use when reading to their child. To have access to your child's Phonics Bug log-in please email Miss Tierney at firstname.lastname@example.org during school hours with "requesting a Phonics Bug log-in for......" as the subject and I will reply with your individual log in as soon as I can.
